{A First Time for Everything}

I think most people would agree that we had it pretty easy with Olivia.  She was an easy-going baby, she likes her sleep, she is well-behaved.  Maybe that's why we were blessed with Brynn as our next child.  She couldn't be more opposite than Liv.  We love them both to pieces, but Brynn is great at trying my patience.  She gets into things that Olivia never looked at twice, climbs things, dumps things, throws things, and falls - a lot!  She has learned to walk over the past month.  She took her first steps on June 12th, and since then she's been stumbling around our house.  She's a master of the drunk stagger - it's quite hilarious to watch.

One unfortunate Sunday afternoon, Brynn was waddling around the dining room and did a header into the pc unit that sits on the floor.  One of the cd flaps was open and she went down, lip first, right onto a corner of the flap.  She was gushing blood from her lip and I could see it was a pretty deep cut.  Josh and I didn't know if it needed stitches, or if it would be fine the next day.  So, we called our resident Nurse Practitioner, Erica, and she recommended we take her to Urgent Care.

That's what I did.  I took her to Urgent Care and I'm so glad I did!  If nothing else, it put my mind at ease.  So many questions were running through my mind.  Would it scar?  Would it need a stitch?  Would they send me home for being an idiot mother and wasting their time?  None of the above proved to be true.  The nurse was so kind.  She grabbed the doctor to come take a quick look and he decided no stitches were needed.  He just sent me home with a package of steri-strips, and said "We'll act like you were never here."  They didn't charge me anything and I got peace of mind knowing that I did the right thing and it didn't break the bank in the process.

I guess there really is a first time for everything.  This was our first trip to urgent care, and I have a feeling it won't be our last.

Here is a pic of poor little B, after she settled down a bit.  Josh took the pic to send to Erica to get her expert opinion :)

{Playing Catch Up}

We must have been having some serious summer fun lately, because it's been over a month since I've updated the good ole' bloggity-blog.  The truth, both good and bad, is that I've been so busy taking photos of other people's children, I haven't had a chance to sit down and fill everyone in on what's been going on with the Thuenemanns!

We'll start with a super fun, super hot, birthday bash for our good friend Aiden.  He turned 5 at the end of June and we were fortunate enough to be asked to celebrate with the Chretien family and a few close friends!  Remember how I was all worried about the heat for Brynn's outdoor birthday BBQ at the end of May?  Well, take the heat from that day and add about 15 degrees of awesome summer swelter and you'll have the day of Aiden's birthday festivities.  Oh.my.gosh.  Like a lot of the country, we've been experiencing record heat in the mid-west:  100+ degree temperatures for days at a time with no relief!  I guess that's what they call the dog days of summer :)

Water tables, kiddie pools, and squirt guns kept everyone cool and the kids could have cared less about the heat.  We enjoyed good food, great company, and the best birthday cake.  You know it's a good party when Olivia throws herself of the ground, whining and crying when it's time to leave.
