{The Divine Miss O}

There's been a lot of fuss over Brynn lately, with her birthday and all, so I thought we would take some time and just focus on The Divine Miss O.
Playing outside is one of Olivia's favorite things to do.  She loves to run barefoot in the grass, ride her tricycle, and help me water the flowers and the garden.
On Tuesday, after Brynn went to bed early we went outside on the driveway and rocked out to the Glee station on Pandora.  Liv drew some gorgeous pictures with her sidewalk chalk and giggled uncontrollably as she chased bubbles all along the driveway, jumping to pop them before they touched the ground.
These are special times, when I can give her the whole of my attention.  Tell her how wonderful her drawings are.  Have a conversation with her without interruption.  Remind her that I love her so much.

I also wanted to share this little bit of wisdom with you.  I recently changed the blog banner and included this little saying that I thought was so poignant.  I think this will be my new motto :)

{Party Day!}

Over the weekend we celebrated Brynn's 1st birthday with some great friends & family, and an outdoor BBQ. I don't know if any of you remember what the weather was like last Saturday, but let me just refresh your memory.  It was HOT.  It was really hot.  Now, I don't handle hot weather very well.  I guess I take after my father in that way.  I love me some bought air (a.k.a, air conditioning)!  I anxiously watched the weather report the week prior to the party as the forecasted temperature slowly climbed higher and higher.  Record heat!  Heat indices near 100!  Wowza...not what I had in mind :(

Everyone around me assured me that it was no big deal and people would still come and have a great time.  I was so thankful to all our greatest friends and sweet family who came to make Brynn's 1st birthday celebration very special, and very successful!

Josh started very early that day, smoking some baby back ribs for our guests.  He also made his now famous beer-bath brats and marinated chicken wings on the grill.  I can take no credit for the mouth watering array of food he prepared that day.  He's turned into quite the master at the grill!  We had some savory side dishes and some sweet treats to enjoy, as well.

All in all, I would call the day a success.  I know everyone was hot, and probably uncomfortable, but I couldn't tell it!  The kids had SO.MUCH.FUN playing in (climbing on, splashing in) the water table we got B as a birthday gift.  There was sidewalk chalk, bubbles, and Dum-Dum suckers in which the kiddos also got to partake.

Planning a birthday party is always stressful, at least for me!  But seeing how happy the kids were running around the yard soaking wet, and hearing the grown-ups compliment Josh's mad grillin' skills made the stress  of the day all worth it.

Thanks again to those of you who were able to be there to celebrate with us.  You helped make a little girls' 1st birthday party pretty darn special!
